In 1976, Gulfstreamer set sail from Florida to reach the start of the OSTAR. During the crossing, in difficult conditions (wind force 8 to 9), a single 12-metre wave caused the boat to capsize. The crew spent four and a half days on the upturned hull before being rescued by a Russian cargo ship in the North Atlantic…
From 1976 to 1993, the boat belonged to the Black Sea Yacht Club (Odessa), then to Alexander Ryabchenko until 2005. Gulfstreamer was considered a ghost ship until its Ukrainian owner, Alexey Solyanyk, contacted the Golden Oldies association in 2007. This magnificent three-masted trimaran, a pioneer of sandwich construction, is today a true testament to the history of multihulls. Gulfstreamer has no modern equipment; the anchor is hauled up by hand and the winches are undersized… Alexey has done a superb job on this pioneering trimaran, which nevertheless requires a major overhaul.
The boat sadly met its end in the West Indies in 2025
