PIR2

Built in 1983, this inverted-Y hydrofoil trimaran has enjoyed great success in ocean racing under the command of numerous skippers. Today, PIR² competes actively in the Multi 50 class. Within this class, it is the only hydrofoil boat, built from aluminium and designed to be dismantled! It is surely also one of the most active ‘Golden Oldies Multihulls’. There is a sister ship to PIR², known as Ker Cadelac, which is based in the USA. On 5 June 2010, during the return leg of the Vendée–Saint Petersburg race, PIR² lost its mast. Etienne, Françoise and their crew member nevertheless managed to hoist the entire rig back on board! The crew therefore reached Skagen in Denmark under engine power, aboard a trimaran that had expanded from 12 to 21 metres in width.

The boat had also capsized before the start of the 2022 Route du Rhum. A real solidarity marathon had enabled it to make it to the start line.
