Hydrofolie was launched in 1978. Alain Labbé, its first owner, wanted to compete in the Transat double-handed race, as well as the Transat Anglaise solo race, on a small, low-cost trimaran that could be built quickly. Its foils were initially attached by a hinge and could be set in two positions: raised at 45° (to relieve the boat) and vertical (like a centreboard). Its designers had the idea of installing a second set of foils to lift the boat completely out of the water!
Since its launch, Hydrofolie has undergone various improvements: new foils designed by Marc Lombard, modifications to the volume of the floats, a rotating and tilting wing mast, Kevlar standing rigging, a set of North Sails sails… Many of these modifications were carried out by Philippe Laperche, who owned the boat for over 10 years before it was sold to Martinique in 2016.
